| 2012-2023 | Multi-Media on Plywood and Red Oak | 48" x 48" What is this: This large format piece uses a near classic illustration of mine. Originally illustrated in '98 using pen, marker and colored pencil on Vellum. I have redrawn, scanned and editioned scads of images of these. Many friends have these still holding court in their kitchens. It was a fun illustration then and still makes me happy today. My interests in art, furnishing, interior design and a bit of irony are all on display with this piece. This piece is called MM...Mies. Coming in at a hefty 48" x 48", It really pops. Why it matters: This mixed media piece is kinda the last of a previous style of mine. I'm current painting my work in acrylic and when you see painted checkerboard / paint chip aesthetic backgrounds... Those squares are actually painted. I'm really happy to be doing this and will continue working this way. Paint is king. However, once upon a time, my first art pieces were made with laminated paint chips and paint samples. People liked them and as an interior designer I thought it was clever and made sense to me. Curious parties asked about how I had procured these paint chips… “Do you just walk into Lowe's and steal all these?... Um... Yes. Pilfering 400 yellow paint chips at a time was kinda part of of making these. I slept fine and did no hard time.
